MCCASKEY WRESTLING

Our Mission

To use the sport of wrestling to create a support system, through which student athletes can be taught to strive for their highest potential.   To build a competitive and respected wrestling program of which Lancaster can be proud.

Building a family

TORNADO STRONG FOR LIFE

THE PROGRAM

MCCASKEY HIGH SCHOOL Boys team

This level currently consists primarily of tenth through twelfth grade athletes, with outstanding freshman getting an opportunity to move to this level as well.  This level will be the highest level a wrestler in our district could achieve while still competing for our program. The primary focus will be that of earning respect through the manner in which the athlete performs, both on and off the mat.

McCaskey High School Girls Team

McCaskey High School was the FIRST public school  in the state of PA to approve an All Girls Wrestling Team.

MCCASKEY EAST MIDDLE SCHOOL

This level consist of seventh through ninth grade students.   Although wrestling should always be viewed as fun, there will be a shift from the basic skills and "wrestle for fun" mentality to a "wrestle for competition" program where athletes get the opportunity to test the skills they have worked to develop. The focus is still not on winning, however, it is placed on using competition to evaluate progress. Much emphasis at this level will be placed on the preparation for competition, as well as handling the results of competition in a positive manner.

BEAT THE STREETS ELEMENTARY PROGRAM
tHE Jr. TORNADOS

This level of the program was founded in the summer of 1994, with the assistance of the Lancaster Recreation Commission (LRC). This program has been subject to the most changes. Since 1994, this program has enlisted the involvement of multiple community agencies, such as the LRC, The Boys Club, The YMCA, East Side Athletic Club, and Athletes in Action. At the present time (2016-2023), the program is being run under the supervision of the Beat the Streets of Lancaster organization. The program is currently at JP McCaskey High School.

The primary goal of this level is to introduce as many elementary aged children as possible to the sport of wrestling, while teaching the basic body movements and skills used in this sport. Secondary goals will include an increase of overall fitness and nutritional awareness. This will be a "wrestle for fun" program with only enough competition to keep the athletes excited and involved. Competition opportunities will include scrimmages, dual meets, and tournaments, both novice and open. In all cases, there will be no emphasis on winning.

LANCASTER MAT CLUB/BOOSTER CLUB

This level will serve as the support system of the program. This support system will be made up of former Lancaster wrestlers, parents of current and former Lancaster wrestlers, as well as various service organizations and supporters of wrestling in the city of Lancaster. The Lancaster Mat Club is the SDoL recognized booster club for wrestling in the city of Lancaster.
